The Detroit Red Stars’ Ryan Spance is facing his second suspension in as many seasons and could be dealing with a hip sprain and other symptoms as he recovers from hip surgery.
Spence is currently rehabbing at a Detroit rehabilitation center and said Monday that he is optimistic he will be back in action sometime next week.
Detroit coach Jeff Blashill said he expects Spence to be cleared to return in “the next couple of weeks.”
The Red Wings have not made any decisions on how long Spence would miss, but Blashll said they want to be safe.
Spance, 31, is the third-leading scorer for the Red Stars and has recorded a career-high 34 goals and 51 assists in 81 games this season.
He is also second on the team with four power-play goals and ranks second on team with 30 points.
